All fixtures, in order to provide proper part
location and machining resistance must first
constrain the part from it’s various degrees of
freedom, or movement. The very first and most
basic fixturing requirement is to satisfy the 3-2-
1 part location constraints. Without this basic
requirement being satisfied, no amount of
manual or power clamping will fix your
application. Along with other enhancement
possibilities, power clamping is a means to
reduce part load time, reduce operator fatigue,
improve clamping consistency, and help
improve machine run time. While it may
improve your fixture performance, it will not fix
basic fixturing errors.
