Live Chuck Applications

Riten Live Chuck Mandrels are designed specifically for applications where the ability to chuck both ends of the part is essential.  The live chuck mandrel combines the rotational ability of a live center with the flexibility of a jaw chuck.  Rolls with damaged centers can be chucked and indicated with a 4-Jaw chuck.  Alternatively, you can chuck a dead center, center the part and offset the shaft with a 4-Jaw chuck.

Other chucks can be mounted as well.  Riten works with several chuck manufacturers as well as mounting chucks supplied by the customer.

Live Chuck Technical Specifications

The bearing design utilizes three large bore, precision, angular contact ball bearings.  The bearing housing is manufactured from low carbon steel and case hardened.  The taper shank is manufactured from 52100 ball bearing steel and through hardened to provide the maximum strength and durability needed in a live center.  Bearing capacity exceeds the chuck capacity by several factors ensuring maximum rigidity and long life of the tool.

Riten Dead Chuck Mandrels are designed specifically for applications where the ability to chuck both ends of the part is essential.  They are used in live tailstocks and lack the bearings found in live chuck mandrels.  The dead chuck mandrel combines the rigidity of a dead center with the flexibility of a jaw chuck.
